Card Login

Card Login lets you log in to TrapScan with your email address and a registered TrapScan card instead of entering a password.

Set up Card Login

The first time you log in, the welcome screen will guide you through setting up Card Login. You can choose any TrapScan card, including one that's already linked to a trap.

Keep the fact that you use Card Login, and which card you've registered, private. Anyone who knows your email address and can scan your login card's QR code may be able to access your account.

You can also set up or change your login card later:

  1. Open You and select Account.
  2. Select Set login card if you haven't added one yet, or Login card if you already have one.
  3. Select Set login card or Change card.
  4. Scan the card you want to use.

TrapScan will confirm when your login card has been set.

Log in with your card

  1. Open TrapScan and select Log in.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Select Scan Login Card.
  4. Scan your login card.

If the email address and card match your account, you'll be logged in without entering your password.

Remove Card Login

Open You, select Account, then select Remove next to your login card.

You can continue logging in with your email address and password.

If your login card is lost or won't scan

Log in using your email address and password, or request a one-time login code by email. Then open You → Account to change your login card or remove it and set up another one.

How login cards work

A login card is separate from a card's link to a trap. You can use the same card to log in and to open a trap's check form, and other people can still scan it to record checks against that trap.

Several people can also register the same card for Card Login. Each person enters their own email address and logs in to their own account. This can be convenient for people working together on a trap line, but everyone sharing the card has access to the same QR code.

Card Login treats the card's QR code as a bearer credential: someone who knows the account's email address and can scan that code may be able to log in. For this reason, it's best to keep your choice of login card private and be mindful of who can access or copy its QR code.

For Card Login, you must scan the QR code with your camera. You can't use Enter ID to type the Card ID and log in remotely. This prevents login by entering a memorised Card ID, although a scannable copy of the QR code may still provide access.

Cards are reusable. You can remove one from Card Login and register another, and other people can use that card for their own login. Changing its login use doesn't affect any trap it's linked to or the trap's check history.

For project managers

Sharing a login card with your team

If your team shares a login card along a trap line, make sure everyone understands that the QR code can be used to access any account that has registered it, provided the account's email address is known.
